Biography
A. Personal Statement
I have been focused on melanoma genetics’ research since 1998 when I applied for the first local grant for germline analysis of familial melanoma in València, Spain. In January 2000 I launched the melanoma database of the Instituto Valenciano de Oncología, València, Spain, in which I have been involved up to date as responsible of the melanoma unit. This database contains information for more than 2600 melanoma patients and about 125 newly diagnosed melanoma patients are included each year. Clinical, genetical and pathological information of these patients have been personally collected and are accompanied by a collection of biological samples, including germline and somatic tumoral DNA, allocated in the Biobank of the institution. The institution is referral for melanoma management and Mohs surgery in the region, with a catching population of 5 million inhabitants. As a consequence, I have performed a median of 100 Mohs surgeries per year since 2000.
