Biography:
Dr. Somani has performed more than 10,000 Mohs procedures making him one of Indiana's most experienced and knowledgeable Mohs surgeons.
He graduated from McGill University, received his MD/PhD from the University of Toronto, and an Executive MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology. He completed an academic track dermatology residency at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Afterward, he became a fellow in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (MSDO) in the Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Institute at the world-famous Cleveland Clinic, where he received advanced training under the directorship of Dr. Philip Bailin, an internationally regarded Mohs surgeon and one of Dr. Frederick Mohs' original trainees.
He has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters. He also serves as an editor and ad-hoc reviewer for several scientific and key dermatology journals and serves on professional committees. In addition, Dr. Somani is frequently invited to lecture nationally and internationally on skin cancers, wound healing, Mohs surgery, and reconstruction.
He is also a recipient of research awards and grants, including the Dermatology Foundation Career Development Award in Dermatologic Surgery. His research interests include cutaneous oncology, wound healing, aging, immunology, molecular/genetics, and signaling pathways involved in skin cancers.
